Poor Boy Itaian Style - Nonna Soluri's Italian Deli, Chicago, Ill

  Located in the Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago sits a little Italian deli that makes sandwiches. We first saw this place on Chicago's Best t.v. show, and after seeing the breaded steak sandwich, we thought we would give it a try.
  We arrived early and waited for them to open.  They were just cutting the bakery fresh bread for the day, and the steak was cooked right after we ordered.  It was nice and hot.  We were asked if we wanted any marinara, or giardinera on it.  We declined but got some eggplant sauce on the side.
  The sandwich was pretty dense.  We split the sandwich because it was already our second meal of the day in just a few hours.  We found the steak to be a little on the plain side and would I wished I would have tried the the marinara, that they offered.
  Live and learn.

Lunch Fail - Tecumseh Brewing Company, Tecumseh Mchigan

Rebbel firs heard about this place on Facebook.  She noticed a Monte Cristo Sandwich that she thought looked scrumptious and worth a try.  We normally don't eat close to home because we usually travel on the weekend and then work schedules hinder it during the week.  The sandwich would not stop calling er name so..off we went for lunch in the nearby city.


  As we walked into the place, we were greeted not ny a host or a wait person, but a sign that said seat yourself, and order at the bar.  To us, it was not a very welcoming entrance.  We found a menu andlooked through it.  Rebbel's sandwich was not on the menu.  It was a special snadwich theat was onlymade on that week.  I talked her in to  staying and weordered a Cuban and ahe ordered a Hot Italian.  Both sandwiches were dropped off at our table and were nice and hot when delivered.  The sandwiches were good but really unremarkable in our opinion.  We ended up getting our bill at the bar and leaving.  I guess thta during other times theymay have otjer choices and full service.  To be fair, they are a brewery and probab;y concentrate on the beer endof things.  My feelings are that if I wanted service like this, I would stick to Subway or Jimmy Lohns and pay lower prices.You can find them on the web at :http://www.tecumsehbrewingco.com

Beef On Weck? Take A Step Back In Time! Schwabl's Restarant, West Seneca,New York

After watching an episode of Bizarre Foods  Delicious Destinations with Andrew Zimmern,  we just had to go to Buffalo and try all that luscious food that was featured.  The one that really caught Rebbel's eye was a meaty looking sandwich called beef on weck.   The restaurant featured  n the show is a place that has been around since 1837. Stepping through the door transports you back through time. On the walls of this immaculately kept older house type restaurant are pictures of dats gone by.  The staff is very knowledgeable and processional.
   The beef on weck is made from your choice of doneness from the in house roasted,hand carved, beef. We chose medium, which we thought was a little over done for our tastes. It is put on a kummeleck roll that is a very salty roll made by a German back in the 1820.'s, The top of the cut roll is dipped in the juices of the meat. My take after the first bite, was that it took me back to my younger days when we had leftover beef on Sundays. I would make a sandwich out of beef with butter on the bread and salt on the meat. You get all of that with this sandwich. although it was a way bit too salty for our tastes.  I also got the house pickled beets that took me back to the ones that my Mom used to pickle herself. Except for the fact that a got a week's worth of salt in one bite of sandwich, I thought the beef was very good and so was the beets. The Best Cuban Sandwich - Chicken Time Belleview, Fl.

What makes a great Cuban Sandwich??? After sampling three different sandwiches in Florida, Rebbel and I came to an agreement.  Great Cuban bread, a good balance of ham to pork, and the best meats.  One of the best Cuban Sandwiches we ate, if found in the little Florida town of Belleview in a shopping plaza. The restaurant is known as Chicken Time and they specialize in Cuban and Puerto Rican food.  The Cuban Sandwich is awesome. It has all the elements of a great Cuban Sandwich.    

The crusty light bread, with balanced tender, flavorful, ham and pork, topped with zesty mustard and pickle. They are located in the Bellview Plaza at 10189 SE US Hwy 441 in Belleview.

A Frosty Morning in Mayberry - Snappy Lunch, Mount Airy North Carolina

On our way back from our annual Christmas trip to Florida, we decide to pay a visit to
the home of Andy Griffith. Visions of Andy, Barney and even Aunt Bea ran through my head. This is the town that Andy grew and went to school. Some things in the television show coincided with the town. Was it just coincidence??? You be the judge. On our way to Mt. Airy, we went past Pilot Mountain. We were told that there was a very good pork chop sandwich at Snappy Lunch. Snappy Lunch is located next to Floyd's City Barber Shop. Snappy Lunch was mentioned in an episode of The Andy Griffith Show.
We decided to hit Snappy Lunch early. Floyd's was closed, we were hungry, and it was a tad bit chilly to walk the town. After all, we had just come from warm and toasty Florida. We were told that the famous pork chop sandwich was not available until 10:00. I decided to try a snappy breakfast. I ordered the eggs and sausage with toast.
This proved to be a mistake. While it was snappy, the sausage was over - cooked and the meal was served on a paper plate. I like dippy eggs, so the juice grabbing plate wasn't a good deal. It was closing in on 10:00 so we decided to try to order the famous pork chop sandwich. We were pretty leery after the snappy breakfast, but we decided that we would go for it. I am glad we did. The sandwich was delicious.
The pork chop, actually a pork cutlet, was very tender. It was breaded and battered,served with tasty coleslaw and mustard and onions and tomato with a sweet chilli sauce. The bun couldn't contain the tasty pork, and there was a slight overhang. As we left, we drove past Andy's old house, and through a twisty mountain road passing little flea markets and beautiful scenery. Well worth the trip.Snappy Lunch is located at 125 N. Main St. in Mt. Andy probably used quite a few of the familiar things from his town for the show, but the town has used a lot of the familiar thing from the show for the tourists.
