Pork Green Chile Breakfast - The Omlette Parlor Colorado Springs,Colorado

On our recent trip to Colorado Springs, my step daughter suggested a breakfast place for us to try. It was the Omelette Parlor in Colorado Springs.  It was definitely a winner. The Omelette Parlor is a homey style restaurant that puts out sandwiches, skillets, pancakes and of course omelettes. We ended up there three times for breakfast because we liked it so much.  It was voted Best of the Springs for twenty years.
We fell in love with the pork green chile that was used as a condiment on some of their dishes. If you want hearty portions, good service, and tasty food, this is the place to go
in Colorado Springs! You can look at the menu at : http://www.menusearch.net/menus/6899general.pdf, or go to the web site at :http://omeletteparlorcs.com/

Amazing Biscuits- Denver Biscuit Company, Denver Colorado

Start off with a big, flaky, buttery, biscuit as a base to a sandwich and it is hard to go wrong!  That was my favorite thing at the Denver biscuit company.  I'm not usually thrilled by biscuits.  I always get the muffin at McDonald's.  These were different. They were fluffy and delicious.  I guess if you are going to have biscuit in your name, you better know what you are doing.
The Denver Biscuit Company  started out in 2009. Started as an idea for a food truck and when that was being built, the owners decided to start cooking in the bar they owned.  It wasn't long before lines formed on the weekend, and hour wait times were common.  They knew they had something. Today they have multiple locations and have been named Denver's Best Breakfast! We visited the S Brodway location.
We decided to go with sandwiches, but biscuit bowls are also offered.  Rebbel ordered the DBC  Club. It was one of those great biscuits with bacon, buttermilk fried chicken, iceberg lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese. She actually added a fried egg to this.
I went with the Franklin.  It was the biscuit with chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese  and sausage gravy.  Not to be outdone by Rebbel I added a fried egg too.  After a little wait, the sandwiches came out and they were huge.
I ate mine with knife and fork because of the gravy.  Rebbel tried to eat hers as a sandwich, but found it impossible to fit in her mouth.  She ended up taking off the lettuce and tomato.  I loved my sandwich and would definitely go back lots.  Rebbel wasn't as impressed. but gave it passing marks.
I f you would like to try them for yourself, yo can find them on the web at:

Southern Hospitality and Biscuits - The Loveless Cafe , Nashville Tn

I was looking for the perfect southern breakfast on our recent trip to Nashville. One name kept coming up on all my searches. The Loveless Cafe. The restaurant started out in 1951 by selling biscuits and chicken to travelers on route 100 according to their web site.  They quickly grew into a 14 room motel and restaurant. Today they serve over a half million guests a year.  Our meak started with a plate of the famous biscuits and preserves.  We were greeted by the manager who saw my Detroit Tiger shirt and brought over a waitress from Jackson Michigan to say hi to us.

I ordered the city ham wich was a thick slice of sugar glazed ham and two eggs over easy. I thought the ham was very mild and good. I also had a hash brown casserole that was good and cheesy  Rebbel had her usual omelette. She thought it was pretty ordinary. The manager bought out some cream corn to tatse which he said was the best around.  I agree with him. It was whole kernels of the sweetest corn in a creamy sauce.  They also have country hams and pit beef they do on premises,  I found exactly what I was looking for in the Loveless Cafe.A true southern gem that I would love to go back and revisit   You can find them on the web at https://www.lovelesscafe.com/

More Than Just Soup! - Soup Spoon Cafe, Lansing Michigan

After trying Trip Advisor's number two breakfast place in Lansing a couple of weeks back, Rebbel asked why we had not tried the number one place.  It seemed like a good question. Maybe the name wasa little misleading. The Soup Spoon Cafe did not sound like a breakfast place. One look at the breakfast/brunch menu proved me wrong!  The menu is filled with so much tasty foods, Ihad a hard time choosing.  Everything from egg Benedict's,  to hotcakes with real maple syrup, deli sandwiches, and omelets.  We decided to choose the omelets.  Rebbel chose the Black Forest omlet. This omlelet is made wi three eggs, koudemade Canadien bacon, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and gruywew cheese.  It was drizzled with hollandaise. I gave it highmarks,  I chose the Northeastern omelet. It has crab, green onions, tomatoes.  It was topped off by  a basil cream sauce. It was also athree egg omelet and was huge and the crab made me feel like I was indeed out east. Ialso took the choice of a brunch sald for a side dish, which actually went very well with my order.

The service the day we went was a little slow, but the waitress kept the coffee coming, You can tell just by the menu offerrings that this is not your typical restaurant.  They go a step or two further.  If you would like to go try the Soup Spoon Cafe, you can find them at 1419 E Michigan in Lansing.  They are on the web at https://soupspooncafe.com .

Golden Harvest Restaurant, Lansing,Michigan - Just Don't Be In A Hurry!

  • As we drove up to the restaurant, I immediately thought that this is not going to be your typical Denny's type breakfast joint, Everything but the kitchen sink adorns the roof.  That might be up there too, for all I know!  If you decide to try this place.you might be able to find the sink because you will be standing in line for awhile.  We stood in line for over an hour waiting for a table for two. The people in front of us were saying they had waited in the winter for up to two hours but felt the food was worth it,  As the door opened to let another party in,. I could hear the customers belting out Sweet Caroline with the stereo. Not your typical place. Once inside it took another half hour or so to place our order and get our food.  We started to inderstand the reason for line outside.  There is room inside for only about 30 customers or so and that is utilizing the front counter space. The orders are cooked as they are taken moving down the line at the grill. It seems like a very slow process for people that have already stood in line,  I decided on the Polish Scrambled Omelette . Advertised on the menu to be,"As big as my head", it was made from 4 eggs, Kowalski Kiebasa slices, peppers, onions, homefries and onions.  The top was garnished with cheddar cheese, scallions, and tomatoes. Served with toast and a slice of watermelon that turned out to be the sweetest I've had all year,  I found it to be very good! Rebbel on the other hand, was not pleased with her order, She ordered the Meatmen, which was supposed to be,meat, meat, neat, cheese, cheese, cheese andw gravy. The neat had been overcooked ruining the whole thing. Was it a place I was happy trying out? I say yes, but I would not want to invest that much time again, You might feel otherwis, just like the countless others that are real fans of this one of a kind Lansing Michigan, breakfast joint. Just don't be in a hurry! They take only cash.  Open at 7 am weekdays and 8 on weekenfds. Located at 1625 Turner St.

Best Food In The World - Glenn's Diner - Chicago, Illinois

"Best food in the world." That is what the sign read as we visited Glenn's Diner in Chicago. Located in the Ravenswood neighborhood,at 1820 W. Montrose, we decided to go there after seeing them on DDD (Diners, Drive Inns and Dives)on the Food Network. First thing that we saw as we walked in the door was multiple cereal boxes artfully lining the front wall. They offer 25 different types of cereal. You get the idea that this isn't an ordinary place.
On each side are walls of chalk boards. These boards are filled with specials that will make your mouth water. After receiving the menu, we made our choices. I had the french toast that like all the other breakfasts, is available anytime and Rebbel got the meatloaf sandwich. It was then that we really started reading the chalk board. There was plenty of Seafood choices there along with a lot of other foods with unusual twists.
The french toast was excellent. Probably some of the best french toast I have tasted. Didn't even need syrup. Rebbel also enjoyed her meatloaf sandwich, but if I ever go back there again, I will start with the chalk boards! Click the title and you will magically be transported to their home page.

The Best Eggs Benedict Evar! - The Dor-Stop Restaurant, Dormont, Pa.

The Dor - Stop Restaurant is located in Dormont right outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. To get to the restaurant, we had to go up what looked like Mount Everest to my wife. We don't know if there was another way up, that was the way our trusty Tom Tom took us. Once there, my wife had the best breakfast evar! She ordered the Eggs Benedict which I am convinced are the best anywhere! Two eggs served on top of Italian bread and covered with Hollandaise sauce. Even the home fries were delicious. I had the Pumpkin Hot Cakes. The hot cakes were, in my opinion, made just right. They had a little bit of crisp on the outside, but the inside was very soft and delicious.
We also had the ham that was cut from the bone in the restaurant. It had a mild not too salty taste that accented the breakfasts we ordered. The breakfast we had made the trip up the big hill worthwhile. Of course we had to get back down, and Rebbel hates downhill more than she does uphill. It was still worth the trip. If you would like to visit them, they are located at 1430 Potomac Ave, Dormont, Pa. Click the title to go to their web site.
